 Hi Luise

I too thought that the book was expensive so I posted on here and someone very kindly recommended Osborne books. they do a tutorial for personal and business tax which is around £13 each and a workbook with practice questions for you to try for around £10. I found them very good and even managed to pass the SA exam using them. I bought them online and they arrived within a day or two.

Good luck with your studies and good luck with the exam

Best regards

thank you very much. Done that. With £ 48 pounds I have bought four books including business tax.

Really sorry for ICB, but at £99 their books it is way to expensive.

Hi

Just to add on to these thoughts... I bought the Osborne books for self-studying SA Tax, which are excellent study resources.  And I'd recommend their material for studying other areas of the syllabus too.

The only thing to watch out for is that the current Osborne books versions for Personal and Business Tax are for 2014/15, where the ICB's exam is for the year 2013/14.  It just means you have to make the necessary adjustments for allowances etc for the exam.  Often older versions of Osborne books can be found on ebay or Amazon.

I did phone ICB to find out when they'd be updating their exam to 2014/15 and I was told this wouln't happen until November/December 2015.

Kind regards

Deborah

 Hi Deborah

Your help is much apreciated.

Kind Regards

I was just thinking the same about the cost of the SA ICB book - I would be really grateful if you would let me know which books you used from Osborne as well, please.

Thanks :)

Hi Zimbogirl,

the books I got were from Osborne books  called Personal Tax (Finance Act 2014) & Business Tax (Finance Act 2014) tutorials and the same titles but workbook. the tutorial books are good, they explain in detail and give examples.  the workbook is what it says. a selection of scenario's for you to work through to see if you've grasped what youve learnt.

I personally wouldnt worry that they are 2014/2015 - you just need to make sure that when you take the exam, you've downloaded all the necessary tax rates and codes etc.

And as Luise has found out, the best bit is - you can get all four books for £48, half the price of the ICB one.

good luck with your study and of course your exam

best regards
