Self Assessment and Cruise Ship worker

I know we're only just through this SA season, but I'm wondering if anyone has any experience preparing a tax return with an entertainer who is working on a cruise ship.  My client has been away since the autumn, so it will be the 2019 return which I will be looking at.

She's been told (hearsay) that because the ship is registered in the Bahamas, she doesn't have to pay tax.  That looks unlikely to me...

Thanks, Fiona

Hello Fiona,

I would think your client is thinking about the Seafarers Earning Deduction, details of which can be found on HMRC website.
