Over a million UK workers will be pulled into the higher tax band over the next four years, according to analysis from the House of Commons Library

Experts said that the decision to freeze the personal tax allowance and higher tax thresholds until 2026 will push some 1.2 million workers into the 40p tax bracket.

On top of this many workers will also be feeling the squeeze from inflationary pressures, the 1.25% National Insurance rise due in April, and increased energy bills, creating a perfect storm for many.

The freeze also means almost 1.5 million more people will be brought into paying the basic level of income tax.
