“Unsure how to approach any meetings I attend, especially my first one, which I intend to do in the very near future. I want advice, help, guidance and general information, as a newly qualified bookkeeper, on how to go about setting up. What steps to take. Will I find the information I am looking for or is it a ''set subject'' meeting? ie Tax. Payroll. Pensions etc etc? I'm hoping that this applies to ALL meetings I attend, where I can feel comfortable asking any questions, building friendships and coming away feeling I have gained valuable knowledge and insights into the industry.”
Hi Ken
Just spotted your post on local meetings and would just like to say that i'm certain you'd be made to feel most welcome at the North East branch meetings.
To introduce myself, i'm Susan Lang and am currently Branch Chair for the Tyne & Wear Branch. We regularly meet around the last Wednesday of the month usually at the Holiday Inn just off the A1M at Washington. The group was 'restarted' in March 14 and we have since grown to a regular group of attendees and are really pleased to see new faces every month too.
Our topics vary - our meeting tonight is on Auto-Enrolment and we have a presentation from a representative of NOW Pensions and then we'll have time after his presentation to have a discussion as a group on how it will effect us all in our practices, jobs or as students in our studies.
Our next event April is looking at Time Management and we have a fantastic presenter coming along from a local business. Following that we have a Sage Tour event planned with the North Yorkshire Branch; speakers on Self Assessment; Training providers, Software providers plus we are always open to suggestions from members on topics that they would be interested in hearing.
If you'd like to take a look at the Events page on the ICB Website this will show you the next couple of meetings, dates and information on the speakers, but please feel free to keep in touch via the forum.
We also have a facebook page which is regularly updated on the events too and we also use it to share the slides from events and minutes of meetings, etc https://www.facebook.com/groups/ICBNEMembers/ If you click the link and send a request to join i'll add you in.
It would be great to see you at an event soon, but meanwhile if you have any questions feel free to get in touch, via ICB, email or the facebook page?
Kind Regards
Susan
