We had a great branch meeting on Thursday night and lots of good ideas for the future of the branch were raised. One related to facebook and the fact that our facebook page to date is a closed group and you can't find it on facebook without being invited. However the advantage of it is that being a closed group we can have discussions about technical issues, for example, that aren't public.
It was agreed that we should use facebook to try and identify new members in the region. There are apparently at least 400 certified bookkeepers in North Yorkshire and yet only a fraction of them come to the branch meetings. We agreed that we should have a second profile on facebook that people could search for and find, which we could use to identify more bookkeepers in the region, and then be able to invite them to join the closed group if they wish.
I don't profess to be an expert on facebook but already have a number of pages that I manage for local groups, so I have offered to set up a group called ICB North Yorkshire Branch. It is now operational and you can find it if you type ICB North Yorkshire Branch in your facebook search bar. Alternatively cut and paste the following address in your search engine address bar https://www.facebook.com/ICBNorthYorkshireBranch and it will take you to our page.
It is obviously early days in our use of this powerful tool so any suggestions that you make would be very welcome. I have 'liked' some other pages related to bookkeeping but if there are any others you think we should follow please let me know. These may include your own bookkeeping facebook pages if you let me know what they are.
If you know any other North Yorkshire ICB bookkeepers, whether they are interested in the branch meetings or not, please do encourage them to like the page so that we can broaden our network as much as possible.
