Level 3 - Can you pass each individual exam and still fail with an avg. less than 85%?

As per the title really:

I have passed BA4,BA5 and BA6 but if I pass BA7 with 70% then I could still average less than 85% accross all 4 exams - it says your average score must be 85% - 90% to pass.

Does that mean it's possible for me to pass each individual exam and still fail? ICB couldn't seem to answer this question.

Did this happen to anyone else? If you do fail, which do you resit?

E.g. 85 + 85 + 85 + 70 = 81.25% yet you pass each exam.

I wouldn't have thought the pass rate for BA7 was 70% - seems pretty low for ICB?

Hi Liam,

As the final exam is a 70% requirement the 85% overall pass rule does not compute, so the answer to your question is, yes, you can pass with an everage percentage less than 85%. However, the award is based on the combination of all scores out of 100%, with the passing grades as follows:

Distinction with Honours - 390 marks or over
Distinction - 375 – 389 marks
Merit - 350 – 374 marks
Pass - 325 – 349 marks

Hope this helps in some way :-)

Hi Brian,

Do you add up the percentages and that then equals the marks? So for exapmle if you got 90% in all exams that would total 360 so you would get a Merit?

Thanks
