Self Study - Textbook query?

Hello

I am currently considering self study of either AAT or ICB. I am currently leaning towards ICB as I have worked in Payroll and can get the Payroll alongisde Bookkeeping.

My main decision will be based on the resources available. I'm a very specific learner so it will depend on the layout of the textbooks etc on how well I will learn.

I was hoping anyone could tell me what the ICB textbooks are like or even better could show me a page or too. Unfortunately, I can't see ICB offer a taster or trial and I would like to know before I purchase.

Thank you all for your time and help.

Hi,

The ICB text books are like any other accountancy text book so have a look at Kaplan or BPP text books for a feel.

I have done all but one of my ICB exams self-study and found the text books fine.

 Hi,

I've just read the payroll books and found them very useful, they help you go through the HMRC screens, and they also go old school of using the tax tables to work out the pay.  Book 1 covers PAYE, NI, Tax codes, Gross pay etc and Book 2 covers K codes, SMP, SSP, Student Loans, Pensions, Benefits in Kind, Directors pay.

Thanks

Stuart

 Hi,

Is self studying the ICB text books only would be enough to apear the exams or need some extra books aswell?

Regards,

Sohail
