Discover a career that fits your life

Are you missing out on the most important moments because of work?

Would your family benefit if you could choose your own hours and be your own boss?

Bookkeeping could be the flexible, rewarding career you’ve been looking for.

Join our Bookkeeping Discovery Day to learn how you can retrain, qualify, and set yourself up for success as a professional bookkeeper.

The event is live and interactive, so you can ask questions, and it’ll also be available on demand afterwards.

You’ll also hear from real bookkeepers who’ve successfully made the switch – people who have built businesses that fit around their families and their lives.

Agenda

Separate sessions 9am  3:45pm
Choose what’s right for you.

1. What does it mean to be a bookkeeper?

Understand the role, the day-to-day work, and how bookkeepers support businesses of all shapes and sizes. And how bookkeeping qualifications can be a launchpad to variety of careers including setting up your own business, working in a bookkeeping or accountancy practice or working in a finance team.

2. How do you qualify?

Explore your training options – from self-study to training providers – and find what suits your lifestyle and budget.

3. Inside the job: Double entry bookkeeping to trial balance

Building the Financial Foundation: Double Entry Principles Explained. The presentation will cover the comparison of single-entry versus double-entry bookkeeping, followed by practical examples, and concluding with the process of double entry to Trial Balance.

With Training Link Tutors Michele Baker and Jo Fredricksen

4. Inside The Job: Categorising business expenses

In this  session, Ideal Schools tutor Caryl Gibson gives a friendly, real-world introduction to one of the everyday tasks bookkeepers handle: categorising business expenses. She will explain, in plain English, what the wholly and exclusively rule means, the difference between revenue and capital expenses, and how to recognise common allowable and non-allowable costs. The session will also touch on simplified expenses and gently bust a few common myths along the way, including why advice from “Dave down the pub” is not always the safest bet. Designed for those curious about bookkeeping, this session shows what the role really involves and how clear guidance and structured rules make it both manageable and rewarding.

5. Study skills

How to manage your time, stay motivated, and make the most of your support network.

6. Setting yourself up for success

Running your own business gives you freedom, flexibility, financial independence, and the opportunity to make a real difference to the businesses you support. It’s a chance to be your own boss, take control of your future, and create a career that works for you and your family. At ICB, we are with you every step of the way. From our Practice Licence and regulatory support to AML guidance, and ongoing professional development, we can help you start and grow your business with confidence.

This session is hosted by experienced bookkeepers who share all the things you need to  about when you’re ready to start your own bookkeeping business – from choosing a business name to finding your first clients.

7. The financials

What does training cost? What can you earn as an in house bookeeper? What investment is needed to start your own business ? All the financial questions that you need to think about as you embark on a new career.

Register free to secure your spot and take the first step towards a career that gives you freedom, flexibility, and control over your future.
