Hi all,

I don't have Sage or any other accounting software and wondering how can I get hold of a software to practice and do the exams, without spending a fortune on something I will only use for study/ICB?

Ideas welcome....thank you all.

Best,

Mina

I have not started the computer boookkeeping module yet so I have still to try out any software for its suitability, I have downloaded and tried three free programs from;

sourceforge.net

GNUCash, JGnash and TurboCash.

An alternative may be to check out bargains in Sage software or others on ebay!

Others on this forum have also mentioned a cloud accounting option; quickfile at www.quickfile.co.uk

Depending on who you do your training with you may get the software free, i got a full copy of sage instant accounts when i did my computerised exam which I am using now for my own bookkeeping so it may be worth checking with your training provider before you go spending money.

You can also do trial versions of software too with the likes of quickbooks etc and there is plenty of free software out there so you could have a play with them also.

Hello again and thank you for your replies.

I am studing at home, will not be using a school so will not have access to any accounting software through them.

I found this on ICB's Bookkeepers Forum and wondering if is still on...if so, are we able to do the exams with Sage One?

Ready to take my level computerised, mock/exam now and wondering which package to use. Not convinced on the suitability of free stuf and now looking at Quickbooks. Could anyone tell me if the cheaper Quickbooks Simple Start is adequate for ICB exams?

Good Evening All

Fellow students have passed the Level 2 and 3 computerised bookkeeping exams (with distinctions) using the Solar accounts FREE trial version (see there forum pages for details).

Thats really cool (I love shareware and the whole linux GNu movement) - did it need alot of effort to install and configure ?
