Hi all. I have a client on Sage who I am moving to xero. Has anyone used My My books by ledgerscope to transfer a year or two year's worth of data on to xero? If so, how would you rate the whole process.  I am discussing with my client this week whether we just start on xero with a clean slate as we are transferring them at the beginning of their financial year, or whether we transfer a year or two of data?

Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Sophie

Never used move my books so cant really help you, but if its the start of the new financial year, y not just keep the old sage accounts with a note that you are now starting on xero? I think it really depends on whether the company wants to go to the expense of moving them, but unless their is a good reason for doing so, as long as you keep the other records and make a note of the changeover. just my opinion, other more experienced bookkeepers may well disagree with me. Im looking forward to seeing what everyone thinks. Hope it goes well whatever you do.

Kind regards

Hi

Using Move My Books was very painless and quick.  Well worth it to have a year or two comparison data.  Just make sure you both know what it can't do (on their website).

Thanks

Hi Sophie

I've used them a few times, to transfer data from QuickBooks Desktop to Online and the whole process works very well and it's a bonus in the ones I chose to do this with, to have the previous data in the file. However, there have been 2 clients that I've suggested they don't transfer the data over - that they, instead, start with a new file.

My reason for this was that there was a lot of 'rubbish' in the old accounts. They had been running the bookkeeping file since they started their businesses and had made a lot of mistakes at the beginning. These errors had been sorted out and corrected with journals etc, but this was an opportunity to clean it up and start afresh.

Hope that gives you a new view on the subject to think about.

Hi there. thanks for your comments. In the end the client and I decided to start afresh with xero and keep Sage there to refer back to. They had so much old data it seemed the best idea to start a new system with a new bookkeeper (me) and not transfer old data and old systems.

Best wishes

Sophie
