Applying for HMRC Agent Code

Hi All,

With reference to applying for an Agent Code from HMRC can anyone advise as to what should all be incldued in this letter? I note that it should be submitted on headed paper, but are there any other numbers/references that I need to include in communciation?  Is there a pro forma letter anyone has that they would be willing to share? (I am assuming that it only needs to be a simple letter along the lines of saying that "I would like an Agent Code for Self Assessment Code ... Thank you", but just wanted to check!)

Thanks in advance

Hi

My letter to HMRC just asked them to register me as an agent for Self assessment purposes and provided my name and address.  I sent this on letter headed paper and received a code fairly quickly.

Stephanie

A simple letter is all that is required along the following lines

I wish to act as an agent for self assessment tax returns via my business (Name). I hold a Practicing Certificate from the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers and I am fully qualified with their Self Assessment Diploma. The company has been providing bookkeeping services since xxxx.

State you ful contact details and you should then receive a reply with an Agent code within about two weeks.

Just seen this thread.  I applied for my Agent Code a month ago and have not heard back and was just wondering how long they normally take to reply.  I can't find a suitable telephone number to chase it up.  Any advice welcome!
