I have just opened my payroll exam earlier this evening, the instructions tell me I have 24 hours of 'log in' time to complete my exam over a 14 day duration. Am I being really stupid.... I can't log out of it, even by logging out of ICB website completely, the timer is still counting down, when I logged back in an hour later I have lost another hour? I am really starting to panic as there is no way I can complete it by tomorrow evening when i have to sleep and work all day, I intended to do it at the weekend, I just wanted to look through it now!!!
I've had a tough week at work and I'm tired, I must be missing something?
I'd appreciate whatever help anyone can offer!

Hi Lindyloo
I replied from my iPad from the email I received but it's not showing - so I will reply again.
i too thought that you had 2 weeks to complete. That's what the website says but you have a timeframe of 2 weeks once you have bought the paper to when you press start. Once you press start - you have 24 hours in which to complete and finish the online section and down load your computerised reports. You can log out and back in as many times as you need but the clock is still ticking down I'm afraid.
Sorry to confirm your worst fears but at least you know. Good luck :)

Good Evening SusieQ
Whats the online part !!!! I thought you just downloaded it and then uploaded the answers within 2 weeks ?

Hi Trevor
the first section is manual payroll element. Like you have had in the past mocks - but it all online ypu have either multiple choice or enter figures as answers. The 2nd section is the computerised where you use a package and download various reports. You download your repoprts and 'finish' the exam to submit your obline section. all has to be completed within 24 hours from when you press start and you see the paper. There is no 2 weeks once you have pressed start
hope this helps

Wow ... the format of the exam seems to have changed ...... I have just hunted the web site and can't see anything .... My computerised Level 2 was download and 2 weeks to complete. It would be nice if the ICB told you exactly how the exam worked on the syllabus and then no one would be surprised !!!!!
Good Luck Lindyloo ..... breathe deep and lots of coffee and maybe throw a sickie tomorrow !!!!

Thank you Susie
I've been up all night in a bid to try and get through this, i'm hoping my efforts will have been worth it. Off to work in a couple of hours with no sleep, I'm just thankful it's Friday, i'm physiaclly and mentally exhausted! Let my dilemma be a lesson to others, even if you think you understand it, read it again!!
Thanks for taking the time to answer, at least you made me aware that I just had to get on with it.
Wish me luck!!!

Morning All
I have just looked all over the ICB website and this is the extract on the qualification -
Level III Diploma in Payroll Management
This qualification covers the theoretical knowledge and demonstration of the use of various tables and publications issued by HMRC and the demonstration of how to carry out computerised handling of payroll related matters.
Entry-Requirements
No prior bookkeeping knowledge or qualifications are required but candidates must have basic numeracy skills.
Candidates must:
hold valid student registration or ICB membership
Assessment Type
Home-based assessment. Two week deadline.
Availability
Immediate in every week of the year
It clearly states a Two week deadline and this was the case on all old style home based exams. I assumed that the Level III Diploma in Payroll Management was still an old style exam. So I have not got a clue where this 24 hour turn around has come from and you download reports. Usually its a text that you have to post into the payroll package !!
I really feel for Lindyloo and what a shock. I can only say well done and the best of luck.
Regards
Trevor

Hi Lindy
Very best of luck but I think I shoulkd compaign, I took the old style before RTI but I too thought you had 2 weeks it used to be you downloaded it had two weeks and i would have thought that you then did the questions bits when you uploaded it. I havnt done the self assessment exam yet, but I would have thought they were the same and my understanding was that you downloaded the questions, had 2 weeks to work on it, then when you uploaded it, you then did the online questions and submitted. Best of luck and very best wishes

Hi Lindyloo,
Firstly, well done. I hope you are not too tired today!
Please note that once you order the new style Payroll 2014/2015 paper, the instructions do state the following....
“Do not click Start until you have read the following instructions for this online paper.
This online paper tests your knowledge of relevant underpinning knowledge that applies to payroll. The final section requires the use of a computerised payroll package.
Duration
This paper will be valid for exactly 14 days from the date and time you are booked in. This time frame includes a period of twenty four hours allowed to complete the paper, the countdown for which commences when you click Start from either the top or the bottom of this screen. Your remaining time will be clearly visible on screen at all times whilst you are completing the paper.
During the 24 hour period you can log in and out of the paper as many times as you wish but the timer will continue to count down. Once the timer has rundown to zero you will no longer have access to the paper even if you are still within your 14 day period.”
The areas in bold and underlined are also in bold and underlined in the instructions.
Once again, I hope you are not too tired today. Have a restful weekend.

Good Afternoon Lily
A couple of questions :-
1. Does it mean you have got 24 hours to do the online questions regarding - manual payroll and then the rest of your 14 days to upload the computerised payroll bit ?
2. Does it mean you have 24hours within the 14 day period to do everything ?
3. Can you please let me know what the format of the exam is ?
Sorry to be a bit thick, but I am still not sure - what the process is.
Regards

Lily has asked me to take this one.
You have a twenty four hour period within the fourteen days to complete the payroll examination. Once you have clicked Start the timer counts down and cannot be stopped. You have 24 hours to answer the online questions, download the computerised section and upload the reports. There ae several screens at the begining that ask a number of questions which include entering the result of numerical calculations or choosing from a list of options (multi-choice).
I would suggest that everyone does a mock paper because then you will have twenty four hours to do this paper whicih will involve answering questions as above and downloading the mock paper (and all the answers). Then you can try out the computerised section in your own time. However once you get to the live exam you have to complete everything within the 24 hours period.
For those who took (or are about to take) this paper for 2013/14 payroll years and before there was (and currently still is) the full fourteen day period allowed to complete the exam but that was when the candidate had to download the paper first and then log back in to do the multi-choice afterwards.

Good Evening Jacquie
Thanks for clearing up - where we are with this years payroll exam.
Regards
Trevor
PS - Has the Self Assessment exam changed as well ?

Thank you everyone for your good wishes, I have managed to submit my exam, only time will tell now.
I did read the instructions, but obviously I didnt digest the bit about the countdown properly, I've had a hectic week of payroll at work and my brain has taken a pounding, but hands up, my own fault, I simply thought I'd have a look at the paper and complete it over the weekend. My previous research had led me to believe I had time on my side.
Hopefully this will serve as a warning to others and they won't let themselves get caught out like i did.
Anyway, on the brightside I have a whole weekend free to do as I please, once I've caught up on some sleep! :-)

Thank you all! :-)
Susie, I never expected a result so quickly, I was told to expect it around Dec 28th! I received an email notification which is good, I had to keep checking on the website with L2 Computerised. I'm sorry it appears your still waiting for your result, I hope you get it very soon and that it is worth the wait! :-)
