driving instructor car claim

Hi,

I have just got a driving instructor as client. I have not had a driving instructor before and I am a bit unclear as to how to claim for his car. It was actually purchased in a previous taxyear and it looks like the previous accountant has written off all of it in the year of purchase using 100% AIA. Am I right in thinking this is allowed for dual control cars as per HMRC CA23510 (taking into account for private use of course). In that case there would be nothing to claim in the following years? Should I contact the previous accountant to check which treatment they applied?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, B.

Hi,

Have you written to previous accountant for clearance to act for this 'client' detailing information you require?

Previous accountant should not divulge any information to you without prior consent in writing from the client.

My understanding is that cars for driving instructors are treated as 'plant & machinery' and the AIA can be claimed.

thanks for confirming the treatment of the car.

As far as contacting the previous accountant goes, this might sound really silly, but how do I go about this? Never had to contact an accountant before as either dealt with new business or accountant directly.

Will my client have to give me a written consent that I then send to the accountant? The accounts seem really pretty much straight forward apart from the car treatment, so not quite sure what information the accountant could supply me with?

Thanks again!
