The Institute of Certified Bookkeepers (ICB) has marked a historic milestone with its largest-ever Bookkeepers Summit, underscoring the growing confidence and ambition within the bookkeeping profession. This year’s event smashed previous records, attracting over 600 attendees to celebrate and invest in their future.

The summit showcased a thriving community and ecosystem, with 30 leading software vendors in attendance to foster collaboration and innovation. The day was packed with insights, networking, and practical learning opportunities, reflecting the profession’s readiness to embrace change and growth.

Highlights included:

  • Emma Jones OBE, Small Business Commissioner, spotlighting the vital role bookkeepers play in driving the UK’s small business economy.

  • A welcome return from Gary Turner, founder of Xero, who shared reflections on two decades of accounting technology evolution and explored how bookkeepers are adapting to AI.

  • Inspiring sessions led by ICB members on pricing strategies, business development, AI roll out, and hands-on workshops covering bookkeeping and payroll skills.

The summit also addressed the profession’s pivotal role in Making Tax Digital (MTD), with legislation set to require quarterly submissions to HMRC from April 2026 - bringing millions of businesses into closer contact with their bookkeepers in the next five years.

The day concluded with the 16th annual LUCA Awards, the “Oscars of the bookkeeping world,” celebrating excellence and the human stories behind the profession, as well as the software solutions powering this vital ecosystem.

ICB CEO Ami Copeland commented:

“This year’s summit proves that bookkeepers mean business. The record-breaking attendance and energy in the room show a profession that is confident, ambitious, and ready to lead. Bookkeepers are investing in themselves and embracing technology, ensuring they remain indispensable partners to the UK’s small business community.”
