This week ICB Co-Founder and President Garry Carter joined dignitaries from across the Commonwealth at Westminster Abbey for the annual service marking Commonwealth Day.

Held each year on the second Monday in March, Commonwealth Day celebrates the shared values and cooperation of the Commonwealth of Nations, a voluntary association of 56 independent countries working together on issues including development, education, governance and trade. The service traditionally brings together political leaders, civil society representatives and young people from across the Commonwealth family, and this year was attended by King Charles III and Queen Camilla alongside representatives from member states.

ICB remains the only accredited bookkeeping organisation operating across the whole Commonwealth. It is recognised under the category of Civil Society organisation, reflecting the Commonwealth’s belief that ICB qualifications can enrich individuals and contribute to the financial probity of nations by strengthening financial skills, business practice and professional standards.

During the service, the Commonwealth’s Secretary-General, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, led the traditional affirmation, which includes the words:

“We affirm that every person possesses unique worth and dignity. We affirm our desire for peace among all peoples and nations, and our belief in justice for everyone, everywhere. United in kinship and common purpose, we cherish the rich diversity of thought, culture, tradition and experience that shapes our Commonwealth.”

Garry Carter commented:

“We are proud to be part of the Commonwealth family. There is a close affinity with Commonwealth values. We share a commitment to high professional standards, opportunity through education, and strong communities built on trust and integrity.”
