Individuals may have occasions when they need to provide proof of their employment history. HMRC can provide this information based on National Insurance records, however, the correct form must be used and payroll may be asked to provide details to help with completion.
If an individual needs to make a compensation claim, they will be asked to provide details of their employment history. These claims can be for:
- An industrial injury (for example, asbestosis, industrial deafness);
- A personal injury (for example, road traffic accident or fall); and / or
- Medical negligence
HMRC’s recently-updated form ‘Request your employment history’ implies it will provide this information, however, be aware they will only corroborate information declared on the form by making a comparison against an individual’s National Insurance record.
The individual is still required to detail the:
- Employer; and
- The period of employment
For Bookkeepers
ICB provides you links to this form for information purposes only. It is not a member’s responsibility to complete this form as part of a payroll service offering.
However, members may be required to confirm the employer’s name and dates of employment so that an individual can make a compensation claim. If the form is sent to the correct address (detailed at the bottom of the form), HMRC will then confirm these details in writing by making a comparison to the individual’s National Insurance details.
