The Tax Agents Handbook is a document to aid agents, find guidance, use HMRC's services and contact HMRC.

It contains the following sections:

  • Getting started - support, guidance and resources for registering as a tax agent and getting authorised to act on your client's behalf;
  • Tools, IT support and services - information about service availability, toolkits, webinars, calculators and other tools;
  • Contacting HMRC - how to check service levels, access forums, contact HMRC, raise complaints or issues and what to tell HMRC if your tax agent business is changing;
  • Keep up to date - how to find out latest news and information from HMRC (the Agent Update and Employer Bulletin), and how to register for E-Mail alerts;
  • Using the GOV.UK website - finding the guidance you need, including manuals and forms, registering for E-Mail alerts, giving feedback and accessing archives;
  • Compliance - information about processes, factsheets and Guidelines for Compliance (the GfCs); and
  • Appeals and penalties - how appeals, tribunals and penalties work

For Bookkeepers

ICB is always keen to relay information to members that helps to clarify what is, we appreciate, the confusing world of finding the right guidance.
