After becoming a mum, Lindie Jacobs MICB set out to build a career that meant more than just paying the bills.
When Lindie Jacobs decided not to return to her civil service job after maternity leave, she wasn’t sure what came next. “I enjoyed the civil service,” she says, “but I was doing it because it was a job, not because it fulfilled me. After I had my son, Zayn, I knew I wanted to do something that I loved — something I could tell him I’d really gone after.”
Bookkeeping had always appealed to her. “I used to handle the accounts at my church and genuinely enjoyed it. My friends would say, ‘You’re the weird one who loves the bit everyone else hates,’ but I really do love the numbers side.”
With encouragement from her husband Thando, Lindie began studying with Training Link in 2024. “At first I thought, what have I done? I was staring at debits and credits, completely lost. But I looked at my son and thought, I can do this.”
By February 2025 she had completed Level 3, and soon after, her Level 4 Diploma. “Getting my Level 4 certificate felt amazing — everything came together that week.”
Lindie and Thando launched Jacob’s Bookkeeping while she was still studying, later rebranding as Legacy Figures Accountancy. “We wanted something that reflected our family values,” says Lindie. “Legacy Figures is about more than numbers. It’s about building something lasting — a business our son can be proud of.”
The couple have taken time to build strong systems and clear roles. “Working with your husband is very different from just doing life together,” Lindie laughs. “We had to be clear about who does what.”
They’ve also found a niche. “Both our mums started their lives in the UK as care assistants. We’ve seen how hard people in healthcare work, so it feels natural to serve that community and give something back.”
Balancing business and family life is key. Zayn is now two, and nursery days are planned carefully. “I want to be a present parent,” says Lindie. “Fridays are our day together. In a few years he’ll be off to school, so I want to make the most of this time.”
Still early in her business journey, Lindie is focused on finding the right clients. “I don’t just want to work with anyone. I want to build positive relationships with people whose values align with mine.”
“For me, bookkeeping isn’t just a career change — it’s a legacy. I’m finally building something that reflects who I am and what matters to my family.”
Lindie will be sharing her story at the Virtual Bookkeepers Summit on Thursday 20 November.
