HMRC will offer extra helpline and webchat support on Saturday 7 November, the deadline for the second Making Tax Digital for Income Tax quarterly update. Here is what bookkeepers and agents need to know.

The second MTD for Income Tax quarterly update is due on Saturday 7 November. HMRC has confirmed it will open some support services that day. This gives customers and agents more flexibility if they need help on deadline day.

Support available on Saturday 7 November

  • The Self Assessment helpline will be open from 9am to 3pm, for MTD for Income Tax queries only
  • Webchat will be available as usual, from 8am to 4pm

Services that will be closed

  • The Agent Dedicated Line will be closed. Agents should call the Self Assessment helpline instead
  • The Welsh language helpline will be closed
  • The helpline for vulnerable customers will be closed

Don’t leave it until Saturday

HMRC recommends submitting quarterly updates as early as possible and getting in touch during the week if you need help, when its full telephone service is available. Saturday phone support only covers MTD queries.

If HMRC can’t resolve a query straight away on 7 November, it may arrange a callback. This is likely to be early the following week rather than the same day, so plan ahead for any clients who may need help.
