2013 Press Release

The 2013 Bookkeepers Summit is set to be the biggest ever

The 2013 Bookkeepers Summit was a sell-out.  It promised to be the largest gathering of bookkeepers and financial managers ever, and it delivered.

The Summit took place on 14th November 2013 at the newly refurbished Pullman Hotel and Conference Centre.  The venue boasted a 450 seat theatre and all exhibition stands together in one room for the first time.

The annual Members Dinner followed the Summit, with delegates enjoying fabulous food and wine in a relaxed setting after a busy day.

The Summit was opened by Chief Executive of the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers [ICB] Garry Carter.  The keynote speaker was winner of Series Five of The Apprentice and Creative Director of the Start Up Loans Company, Yasmina Siadatan.  Yasmina’s inspiring speech focused on the importance of bookkeeping to small businesses and entrepreneurs.

Yasmina said: “As a small business owner, I fully understand how hard it can be to start a business from scratch.  One of the most valuable lessons I learned was the importance of better bookkeeping.  Keeping on top of your finances from the off will pay off, and bookkeeping is essential to that.

“The way the media portrays business in shows like The Apprentice and Dragons’ Den isn’t a true representation of what goes on behind the scenes.  It is the bookkeepers that form the backbone of a business.”

Other speakers included Clare Carter from Sage, Gary Turner from Xero, Barbara Wilson from HMRC, Paul Stephenson from the government Growth Accelerator Scheme
