I have a client with a member of staff he has received a new tax code for from HMRC, as has just reached pension age

All is fine but it's not really clear when it comes to the Week1/Month  indicator: line it has an "X" next to it does this mean he should use Week 1/Month 1 rather than the cumulative Tax code?

Hi Penny,

I found this website that had a good explanation: https://www.litrg.org.uk/tax-guides/pensioners/tax-code-problems-retirement and a simple example.

I haven't had to do in practice myself so I can't offer any personal experience.

It is an emergency tax code, check this link https://www.gov.uk/tax-codes/emergency-tax-codes
